The Lonesome Ghost Page 06

The overall look of the kitchen is mostly the same as in the old version, however, the visual layout is a lot cleaner now. Backgrounds are something I constantly have to remind myself to put more energy into since my main interest is the characters. I hope I succeeded in breathing some life into the house interior this time around, without all the messy clutter and confusing layouts.

So you might notice a slower pace in the comic now, in contrast to the original version. That has to do with both experience and some literature courses from college. I have learned that to build up some suspension for both the scares and punchlines, I have to take my time and to the comic properly. I am sure there is still very much for me to learn, however, that is for the future me. As promised, I added the original page for your enjoyment.

Decided to split the layout from the old comic into two pages for this one. I am happy how the scary old mansion turned out in this version. Posting the original next week so to not spoil anything for new readers.

Here we see Curly for the first time (again) with some updates to the quality, dialogue, and style. I think the backgrounds turned out better this time, using some nice free tree brushes for photoshop. The new font also breathes a gust of fresh air into the dialogue if I say so myself! The original is included here for comparison and reminiscence.

The original first page of Curly: The Lonesome Ghost. Not much has changed here in the way of layout. Just updated quality and especially the proportions.

Forgot to mention it last week, but I also changed the dialogue font in addition to the revamped and redrawn version of the Lonesome Ghost. The font is called Back Issues and available for free on blambot.com. Had some help from the guys over there to pick a new font for the comic, awesome lot.

Added a bit of a prologue to get some scarier mood going and hint at the larger overall backstory. You even get a nice close-up on old Madame Moraru in the first panel!

The Lonesome Ghost (Cover) – Revamped

When I published the first pages of The Lonesome Ghost, back on the 18 of August 2015, I wrote:

“The first short story of Curly the cursed conman.

I can’t hardly [sic] believe it’s been almost over 4 years ago that I wrote this comic. Mostly as a therapeutic way get me [sic] hands working again, after a minor TIA stroke at the tender age of 23. I recently started the clean up of old comics, but it still rough stuff. Very well; “Git goin’ readin’ now peeps!” as Curly would put it!”

Well, a lot has happened since then, most of it art-wise. I finally decided to re-draw this comic and add some flourish to the manuscript. I know many of you readers want me to get on with the story and tell more about Curly’s background and why he is cursed in the first place. I will explore that subject soon, however, this particular story lies very close to heart and I just want to do it justice. So I sincerely hope that you all will have some patience and enjoy this re-telling as much as I am enjoying to re-draw it. I will also publish the originals here in the post as trivia.

So, let’s get started… again!

The original cover for The Lonesome Ghost published back on the 18 of August 2015. The title is a reference to the Disney cartoon “Lonesome Ghosts” from 1937.
