First comic of the year!
A bit of lore exposition dump here, but I found it necessary to structure the “rules” of how the supernatural works in Curly, since there seems to be a monster around every corner. As Henslow explains, most people never experience or notice anything supernatural or paranormal firsthand. A minority is sensitive enough to see through the veil and to experience or notice things, but only a chosen few can actually interact with it. Henslow is one of those, since he was born with a connection, and Kaz has been dragged into it by her proximity to Curly and Henslow.
It’s like that one friend most of us had at one point or another. They constantly get into trouble or weird situations; it’s like they’re a magnet for awkward or sometimes dangerous stuff. Perhaps they cause them; perhaps trouble seeks them out. Hanging out with them seldom results in a dull time, but oh boy, can it get tiring. I had quite a few such acquaintances over the years, and I can say that I prefer a serene life to those day-to-day shenanigans.
