The Lonesome Ghost Page 16

I would not want to set foot in that nasty old kitchen ever again!

Another good example of how much more condensed the original story was. There was not much room for Curly’s yabbering and the whole Smiler the Skull thing past without much timing or comedy. All in all, I am pretty happy with this revamped version over the old one. As per usual, I am posting the original down here for reference.

The heavy artillery! Love this page since it is so much fun to draw all of Curly’s mystical equipment, especially when you know that they are key features in upcoming stories.

Not adding the old version here, since the old layout would spoil the story for new readers.

Just you don’t hate it when your clothes just lie tossed about the floor? Personally, I call it my walk-on closet!

On another note, the skull on the last panel is a reference to artist Skottie Youngs awesome comic book “I hate fairyland” that I just completely adore.

Could not resist adding some pop culture references in this one. The bloke hanging upsidedown got the same t-shirt as good old Charlie Brown and the bearded fella is a nod to Bobby Singer, thus the bullet hole in the cap.

Also posting the old version here for reference. You might notice that I split the old page up in two for this newer version, this was for better layout and pacing. There are some new jokes with Curly pondering the ghost’s reasoning for kidnapping lads, Curly waking up on a filthy mattress instead of the basement floor and so on.

Waking up in strange places is mostly not very fun, especially if unintended… Even worse if you find your pants down at your ankles, lying face down on a moldy mattress in some strange damp basement. However, who are we to judge? Happens to the best of us at some point or another… right guys?

What?

No?

Oh dear…

The Lonesome Ghost Page 09

The original Lonesome Ghost story was actually only 9 pages long. However, since I added a prologue, finetuned the pacing and made some changes in the manuscript, we just reached the end of the first act. So expect a lot more to come, folks, this story is getting a much needed extreme makeover! Let the old bird soar again and so forth.

As promised here is the original page, revealing the woman as a ghastly ghost!

The Lonesome Ghost Page 08

The famous dinner scene, inspired by such yucky masterpieces such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (original and the remakes), Ghost Ship and The Lost Boys. Me, I always had a hard time with messy table manners and people playing with their food. Chewing with open mouths, spilling food, just making a mess. So scenes involving food turning out to be rotten, spoiled and so on is a big nope out for me. The post-surgical scene from Minority Report gave my gag reflexes a run for their money! Violence, gore, and sex, no problemo! Nauseating food scenes? Heck no…

As usual, I post the original page here too. As you may notice, the old page was split up for pacing reasons and new story elements.

So this is one of the bigger changes I have done to the original, adding some chemistry between characters (and thus making the twist all the more disturbing). It also felt good to add a sweet moment all while showing of Curly’s weakness for the fairer sex. Yeah, he is not the brightest light among the bulbs at times.
